Electronic Component Sourcing

Providing a service to order components for incoming PCB assembly jobs is no simple task.

To order components you must:

  1. Accurately estimate the cost of the components including shipping.

  2. Confirm the vendor’s part number represents the correct manufacturer’s part number.

  3. Confirm the manufacturer’s part number calls out the correct packaging option (tape, reel, tray, bag, etc)

  4. Confirm the correct number of pieces are ordered, and order the appropriate number of extra components to compensate for any parts that get tossed by the SMT equipment.

  5. Confirm the vendor placed the correct quantity of parts in the bag.

  6. Confirm the vendor placed the correct part inside the bag.

  7. Follow up with vendors that forgot to send the part.

  8. Spec substitutes for parts that go out of stock.

  9. Properly store components awaiting assembly.

  10. Plan for delays.

Henway Technologies has 3 stages of Order QC (quality checks) to ensure that the correct parts were ordered, received, and kitted in the correct project box. We have dedicated staff for ordering parts, receiving parts, kitting, and inventory management.

Henway’s core business background is custom circuit board design and prototyping. Our engineers are available to help our procurement staff find the proper replacements for any hard to find components.

Henway Technologies offers full turn-key PCB assembly. We can order your parts, bare circuit boards, assemble the components to the circuit boards and test them.

You have 4 options for component sourcing:

  1. Full turn-key: We supply all the components which will be purchased from authorized and reliable distributors. No substitutes will be used without getting your approval.

  2. Reserved Full turn-key: We purchase all components from distributors you recommend.

  3. Consignment: You supply all the components to us. Send us all the components with a BOM file and detailed packing list indicating item number, customer or manufacturer’s part number and quantity. Our trained shipping and receiving staff will document your parts and properly store them until it’s time for assembly.

  4. Partial turn-key: You supply some components and we supply the rest.

We have relationships with authorized vendors and distributors such as Digi-key Electronics, Mouser Electronics, Arrow Electronics, Avnet, etc., which enable us to provide high quality components. We put our preferred vendors through a 20 point quality inspection checklist that includes things like order accuracy, on-time delivery, prompt customer service, etc.

How to provide component information for a PCB assembly quotation:

You need to provide a BOM that includes:

  • Manufacturer and manufacturer’s part #

  • Reference Designator

  • Component description

  • Quantity per board

Microsoft Excel format (.xls, .xlsx, .csv, or tab-delimited) is required for the Bill of Materials (BOM). Your components quotation should be ready within 1 - 2 business days.
