A company specializing in high-end welding equipment approached Henway Engineering with a forward-thinking idea: they wanted to retrofit an IoT control board into their existing products to enable remote customer support. Their goal was to allow service technicians to log into a web portal, access the device settings, and make real-time adjustments—reducing the need for on-site service visits and improving customer satisfaction. All the customer needed to do was connect the device to Wi-Fi, and expert support would be just a click away.
When Henway Engineering took on the project, our first step was understanding the features the company wanted to control over the web. Through these discussions, we uncovered additional needs: visibility into data that wasn’t accessible with their current electronics, such as high-voltage current measurements, the ability to toggle equipment on and off at specific times, and real-time monitoring of physical knobs and switches on the device’s faceplate.
To address these needs, we developed a universal control PCB that provided excess data logging and visibility and Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity to bring the machines online.
The outcome? The company experienced a significant reduction in on-site service calls, leading to happier customers who could resolve issues faster and with greater convenience—all without heavily modifying their existing products.
