A landlord in New York City became a successful entrepreneur after he developed a highly successful product that can detect leaky water pipes in apartments and shut off the water when necessary. He was immediately successful. His innovation attracted investors, and his business grew fast. He reacted by establishing strong relationships with manufacturers. He got them to do everything for him. He built a beautiful and informative website that sold the product for him and could take online orders and fulfill them effortlessly.

After several prosperous years and plenty of free time, he started to consider expanding his market to apartment complexes and hotels, adding wireless capabilities to alert front desk staff of any issues.

Recognizing the potential of this idea, the landlord approached our company for guidance. Our wireless hardware and firmware engineers were very excited to take on this project. We began with many discussions to understand his vision. He detailed every aspect of user experience, from packaging and unboxing by plumbers to the interface perceived by tenants, and he emphasized the need for a tamper-proof design. He explained how the front desk and maintenance staff should receive alerts, how they know what room the alert is coming from, and so on. Through these conversations, we realized that the product needed to be smaller, feature-rich, have a longer battery life, include mesh networking capabilities, and maintain a user-friendly yet robust interface.

With the requirements clearly documented and approved, Henway proceeded with the hardware specifications, creating detailed block diagrams and explaining each component in simple terms for our client. We presented production cost estimates, 3D CAD models, and breadboarded the mesh networking to test range and battery life before finalizing the design. The result was a custom prototype that met all his specifications. We are currently block-testing the hardware and writing code.
