A company specializing in commercial access control equipment came to Henway PCB Design and Manufacturing because they needed to develop a device that would enhance security in low-security access areas within buildings or restricted zones. The solution required a dual authentication system, combining a PIN entry with facial recognition. The facial recognition system had to be battery-powered and fast-acting, capable of waking up from sleep, capturing a photo, connecting to Wi-Fi, and returning a pass/fail result—all within seconds to set a GPIO output that would grant or deny access.
To tackle this challenge, Henway began with our standard Q&A sessions to fully understand the product’s requirements, the company’s objectives, and the needs of the end users. Recognizing the critical importance of the access time, we initiated the project with an R&D phase focused on prototyping the camera sensor and Wi-Fi module. Our goal was to run speed tests to ensure the system met the stringent timing requirements—knowing that without this, there would be no product.
We quickly developed an engineering benchtop prototype, demonstrating that we could achieve the necessary performance specs. The customer was satisfied with the results and decided to proceed with the remainder of the project.
