A company owning an e-commerce store for industrial walkie-talkies wished to develop a new product. They needed a product that was more reliable in remote sites with challenging terrain and poor cell phone reception. Reliable communication was critical for their customer base with workers operating heavy machinery, managing logistics, and ensuring safety protocols over several square miles.
The company sought Henway’s expertise to develop the electronics for a new handheld walkie-talkie device that offered extended range, advanced filtering, multiple communication channels, an emergency alert feature, and a bigger battery. After discussing the project with Henway, the company set the plan to research available radio ICs and build a proof-of-concept hardware design for validation testing. Their current manufacturer has software experts in audio, so they’d take care of the filtering and noise-canceling software. They only needed hardware at this point.
Henway designed a custom PCB with numerous buttons, a battery pack, a speaker, an SD card for easy pre-recorded audio storage/playback, and an analog walkie-talkie IC, fitting it inside an off-the-shelf enclosure from Polycase. We built several hardware samples and provided block-testing firmware and complete documentation.
The result was successful. The customer deployed the prototypes across various remote sites and is collecting feedback before pursuing the production version.
